tired... yes, i'm complaining...

sitting at a cafe near home... finally a day i can just sit and do nothing... well, not really... tons of shit to take care of which i'll ignore for at least another hour or so...
spent pretty much entire march working on vijay iyer/mike ladd/ibrahim quraishi's new project... still life with commentator... which i really liked a lot... felt some what previlleged to be a part of it... we rehearsed from march 6th and on... almost everyday until the premier on the 24th in chapel hill, NC... then recording back in new york for two days... was crazy but was fun... especially when we finally made it to the memorial hall at UNC where we performed... finally were able to grasp what it could/would be... beautiful looking set on the stage... complicated yet engaging music... powerful and sharp words... and great performers and director... all the actors involved had their own special thing... masa was full of energy and funny as hell... palina had a great sense of humor and timing... pamela had a great presence... guillermo sang those songs with such a sexy voice that can melt anybody... and mike is just full of power and fire... then vijay and liberty are just so much fun to play with... then there are lots of other good people involved... although we all had some issues with the costume parts... masa was the only one who looked great in that red brief... was great to see vijay, liberty in ruffles though... don't worry, liberty... you didn't look all that gay... looking forward to do it again in june... maybe with some costume changes...?
hmm... then i had a day off this tuesday, well had a rehearsal... then yesterday went to boston for the day to record with guy's rock band maxi geil... got on that chinese bus at 8 am... went to the studio around 1... worked non stop until 6:30... back on the bus at 8 pm... ah... went really well... songs sound great... was shocked that i didn't fuck up... and no major computer problems... finally my cello strings got adjusted and sounded pretty sweet and dark... my poor abused cello... i've had her since i was 12... gee... almost 19 years... time to get a new case though... it's been killing my body lately... carrying always on my right shoulder... went to a chinese acupuncture last week that seemed to help a little bit... was my first time and was kinda gross looking at the thin needles penetrating my arm then getting wired with electricity... then they were moving up and down... yikes... but guess i'll go back anyway...
eh... then i've been having insomnia that i haven't been able to sleep more than 5 hours for last 2 weeks or so... any suggestions...? i feel like my body is going to fall apart... getting old... also this morning i woke up with this awful acid reflex thing in my stomach...
then i have two gigs tomorrow... will be amazing just because i have a great people playing with me... i'm scared... feel like it's been forever since i played what i do... maybe i'll just let them play... george lewis and vijay... then hahn rowe... after that i have a recording of my own music next monday... to go with an art book by colin stinson... need to focus...! gotta get my brain washed big time...
maybe i'll sit here a bit longer... sun feels so nice...
stupid of me to complain though... i'm so damn lucky to work with so many great people/friends...
my tummy hurts...

another hallo, hallo, hallo...

i've been checking out this new bakery on clinton and rivington called falai... they sure have excellent croissants... almond and chocolate ones are fabulous... also have delicious tart things... i was just there this afternoon and the food looked pretty good too...
also some time ago i went to this japanese restaurant called ushi wakamaru on houston, i think between sullivan and thomson, which their sushi was really reasonable and fresh... and great vibe... very authentic it seemed... my friend had sushi deluxe which was really fresh and great quality... then i ordered three different rolls and they were delicious... each of our food cost about 20 bucks which is really reasonable...
however i had a great pleasure of having my birthday dinner at sushi of gari, on east 78th street just off of 1st avenue, which blew my mind away... was over the scale amazing... they have all these crazy sushi they created... one with roasted tomato and cream cheese, one with porcini mushroom, one with chopped tuna that was like air and so on... was just unbelievable... and yes, it's pretty pricey but i'd say you should do it... wow...
then, yeah, i've been eating out a lot, not that i can really afford, i had this amazing thing at momofuku, on 1st avenue and east 10th street, which was a great version of my favorite korean snack, spicy rice cake thing... they grilled the rice cakes first so they are crunch outside then smoldered in this yummy spicy sweet sauce... i was soooo happy... the chef is korean-american and sure mixes his korean heritage with american food in a brilliant way... he uses lots of kimchee and vegetables in a way that anyone can enjoy... oh, my god, i gotta meet the guy... heh heh heh...
